Consultant Stroke Physician
Frimley Park Hospital has been commissioned as one of three units providing Hyper Acute Stroke Care in Surrey. As a result we will now provide stroke care to the communities Frimley Health serves in Surrey, Berkshire, Hampshire and Buckinghamshire.
It is because of these exciting developments that Frimley Park’s Stroke Service is expanding and we are delivery a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU)/Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) stroke service at Frimley Park Hospital with TIA, six week follow up and six month review clinics, and an ASU at Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford. We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative professional to complement the current team of six Stroke physicians and to help us continue to deliver a high performing service on both hospital sites.

We have been recognised as providing one of the best stroke services in Surrey (SSNAP Organisational and Clinical Audits rating ‘A’). Stroke is a strategic priority for the Trust as we believe our patients deserve the very best.
The post holder will work across two highly regarded stroke units at Frimley Park Hospital and Royal Surrey County Hospital. The HASU is located at Frimley Park Hospital with on-going ASU care for patients at Frimley Park Hospital and Royal Surrey County Hospital. The successful applicant will be based at Frimley Park Hospital but also work on the ASU at Royal Surrey County Hospital. The post holder will be expected deliver stroke care across all areas of the pathway including HASU, ASU, TIA clinic, Stroke follow up clinics and providing cover to a community stroke rehabilitation ward at Farnham Community Hospital. They will work alongside our multidisciplinary team of stroke physicians, stroke nurse consultant, stroke nurse specialists, neuro-psychologist and stroke therapists on both sites.
The successful applicant will participate in a 1:7 on call rota providing 24/7thrombolysis with daily HASU ward rounds and TIA/follow-up clinics. We have close links with neurology, neuroradiology and vascular surgery. Our thrombectomy provider is St George’s University Hospital, London and we are their largest external referrer for thrombectomy.
We have a 12 bedded HASU and a 16 bedded ASU at Frimley Park Hospital. We have a 16 bedded ASU at Royal Surrey County Hospital. Stroke rehabilitation is provided within the trust and at Wexham Park Hospital, Farnham Hospital and Royal Surrey County Hospital. In addition we have a highly regarded Early Supported Discharge (ESD) team.

Frimley Park Hospital is located just off junction 4 of the M3 and is ideally located within commuting distance of London – the nearest mainline train station is Farnborough Main with quick access to Waterloo and Clapham Junction. Local towns are Camberley, Farnborough, Ascot, Windsor, Farnham, and Guildford.
