Consultants in Acute Medicine

Wexham Park Hospital

Frimley Health has invested in a £50 million Emergency & Assessment Centre on the Wexham Park Hospital site. This build is due for completion in Spring 2019 and comprises a state of the art Emergency Department with the presence of Radiology providing X-Ray, CT and Ultrasound within the department, an Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit as well as acute inpatient areas for Medicine and Surgery

It has been designed to match the increasing and future demands in Emergency and Acute Medicine by providing a large area for Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC) as the primary management modality for all patients to reduce avoidable admissions including frailty. These posts will provide the opportunity to be part of this exciting development

The main themes of the future model will be to improve both patient experience and handle larger patient volumes, whilst further reducing the demand on inpatient beds. Patients should experience reduced delays of care through greater access to critical investigations and the provision of co-located medical and surgical care will enhance senior decision making at the front of the hospital with the aim of optimising acute flow and increasing the number of patients assessed and discharged within 72-hours. Clinical commitments will include supporting the acute medicine service in the new Emergency assessment centre.

To achieve this, we are recruiting two posts within Acute Medicine.

Development of an appropriate special interest will be supported. Teaching and training is an integral part of the roles as well as participation in research and audit activities in the department.
