Due to reorganisation and expansion, we have a number of exciting posts available for Haematology Biomedical Scientists at Band 5 and Specialist Biomedical Scientists at Band 6 in the Wexham Park Hospital Hub laboratory.

Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services was created in 2016 with the incorporation of Royal Berkshire Hospital and Surrey Pathology Services. We operate over 5 hospital sites, with Frimley Park Hospital and Wexham Park Hospital acting as the “Hub” laboratories for Blood Sciences. We cover a large area of the South of England, spanning 5 counties and a population of circa 2 million people. If you are looking for a Specialist BMS or BMS position with a desire to work as part of one of the largest NHS led Pathology Services in the UK look no further; the Blood Sciences department can offer:

•innovation in Blood sciences,
•strong, personal and professional development,
•a laboratory network at the forefront of the national Modernising Pathology agenda,
• a department that is forward thinking with team orientated and sociable staff.
• a team with a high level of experience and commitment to NHS values and excellent patient care.

In addition successful applicants will have access to the BSPS Blood Sciences Training and Development team, where we can support your development by providing access to courses up to and including a Master’s degree. We have a dedicated on-site Training Manager to help facilitate our training needs. In addition we support development of staff with internal and external courses for management, Health & Safety and Quality management. These courses will form part of the individuals CPD portfolio.

Our laboratories are fully accredited with CPA & MHRA, we are awaiting inspection to ISO15189 standards at the Wexham Park site, and are accredited as a training laboratory by the IBMS for both registration and specialist portfolios leading to HCPC registration. All band 5 applicants working towards their specialist portfolio will on completion be automatically upgrade to Band 6.

The Wexham Park Hub laboratory provides in-patient and outpatient services to Wexham Park and Heatherwood Hospitals along with analysis of GP samples for the ‘Berkshire’ side of the pathology network. You will work in rotation within all sections of the laboratory, namely General Haematology, Coagulation, and Blood Transfusion. Full training will be provided and on completion of competency there is the opportunity to become multidisciplinary trained in all sections within Blood Sciences; this can include studying for the new IBMS diploma in Blood Sciences fully supported and funded by the department. The post holder will participate in the departmental out of hours service after training and competency assessment, and opportunities to work across different sites across the network if required.

We would be interested to hear from candidates with experience and interest in ‘Quality’ aspects of Biomedical Sciences including Audits, Risk Assessments and EQA.

The laboratory is well equipped with a Sysmex FBC track including an autoslide maker, STAGO analysers, Sebia Electrophoresis and Immucor Transfusion analysers.
